Pitlochry (& Moulin), Dunkeld, Blair Atholl Ale Trail
This trail is based around public transport, both bus and train, although there is a pleasant and scenic walk between Blair Atholl and Moulin (with alternative routes) for those, who are fit enough. The trail need not be done in a day, of course - although it can be, with a bit of planning; it is simply a guide to a few pubs in the same geographical area.
Dunkeld and Birnam station is actually on the edge of Birnam and a longish walk or shortish bus ride from Dunkeld, which is a popular tourist destination, with a number of other pubs and hotels, some specialist shops, a famous cathedral, and other attractions.
Pitlochry is the main town in the area, very popular with tourists, with a lot of hotels and B&Bs. It is on the train line from Perth to Inverness, as is Dunkeld to its south, and Blair Atholl to the north (where not all trains stop). All are also served by various bus companies, although not very frequently.
Moulin is uphill from the centre of Pitlochry, about half an hour’s walk, but there is a bus, which goes up the hill, then turns around back into the centre – and then on in the direction of Dunkeld (with one change).
Blair Atholl is also on The Perth-Inverness railway line, and has its share of tourists. In addition to local bus services (run by Stagecoach and Elizabeth Yule Transport) to Pitlochry, the occasional express service to and from further afield also stops in walking distance of the train station.
See Public Transport in Tayside for detailed bus and train information.
