Pub of the Year Awards
In previous years, Tayside CAMRA only presented a single Branch Pub of the Year (PotY) award, but since 2023, the Branch has awarded five area PotY awards as well as one overall Branch award. The five areas are:
Angus
Dundee City
Perth City
Perthshire
Kinrossshire
Any member of the Branch can vote for a pub that they have visited for an award.
Eventual selection is based on scores in the NBSS (National Beer Scoring System) and assessment by other members on the basis of the National and CAMRA SCOTB (Scottish Branches) PotY Judging Criteria, which take into account:
- The quality and condition of the real ale/cider/perry sold
- Promotion and knowledge of real ale (both on display and as shown by staff)
- Cleanliness and staff hygiene
- Service, welcome and offering (includes other products and services)
- Style, décor and furnishing
- Community focus and atmosphere
- Sympathy with CAMRA's aims
- Overall impression and value (this is the "catch all" category and so includes criteria that don't fit in elsewhere)
Award winners are, of course, entries in the next following CAMRA Good Beer Guide, and receive a PotY certificate presented by one or more Committee Members, with local press invited to the presentation, a mention in the Branch Magazine, and on this page on the website. The overall Tayside Branch PotY is also put forward automatically for the CAMRA SCOTB PotY Award, which in turn becomes eligible for the CAMRA National Pub of the Year Award for the UK.
