Using your 50p CAMRA vouchers in Scotland

Your CAMRA membership includes 50p off real ale, cider and perry vouchers that can be used in many pubs across the UK.
However, if you are using your vouchers in Scotland, there are some legal restrictions you should be aware of due to Minimum Unit Pricing laws.
In Scotland, vouchers cannot be redeemed if applying the discount would reduce the price of the drink below the legal Minimum Unit Price (MUP). This law means that no alcoholic drink can be sold for less than 65p per unit of alcohol.

Example of when a voucher can't be used
If a pint of 4% ABV beer contains 2.3 units of alcohol, the minimum legal price for that pint in Scotland is £1.48.
If the pub is selling that pint for £1.70, using a 50p voucher would reduce the price to £1.20. Because this falls below the legal minimum price of £1.48, the voucher cannot be accepted.

Example of when a voucher can be used

If the same pint is priced at £2.20, applying a 50p voucher would reduce the price to £1.70. As this remains above the £1.48 minimum legal price, the voucher can be accepted.

------

Some examples of the approximate price of a pint, where a 50p voucher could be accepted.

3.4% ABV → £1.76 (MUP £1.26)
3.8% ABV → £1.90 (MUP £1.40)
4.0% ABV → £1.98 (MUP £1.48)
4.2% ABV → £2.05 (MUP £1.55)
4.5% ABV → £2.16 (MUP £1.66)
5.0% ABV → £2.35 (MUP £1.85)

*If a pint is priced below these figures, a 50p voucher is unlikely to be accepted in Scotland. If it’s priced above these figures, the voucher will usually be fine to use, though final acceptance always remains at the pub’s discretion.

Please be aware that pubs reserve the right to stop offering discounts without notice. Whether a pub offers a discount to members or not is always up to the discretion of the publican. Offers may change without notice.

We hope this helps you make the most of your membership benefits when visiting pubs in Scotland.
